Method

Solubility of a solid:
Measure 200ml of water into the beaker.
Heat the beaker using a bunsen burner until the water reaches the desired temperature.
Add sodium chloride in 5g (about small spoonful) increments.
Stir after addition of sodium chloride.
Continue until the solution is saturated (it no longer dissolves)
Record final temperature and the quantity of solid dissolved.
Take the quantity of undissolved solid from the quantity of sodium chloride added to the solution in order to determine the quantity of sodium chloride dissolved.
Repeat with the water at 20o, 40o, 60oand 80o C

Producing the CO2:
Measure 60g acetic acid into a small conical flask
Place 20g of sodium hydrogen carbonate in the balloon.
Place a balloon over the opening of the flask.
Stretch the balloon making sure all the powder goes into the flask.
Wait until the reaction has ended.
Remove and seal the balloon.

Gas solubility:
Immerse the balloon in a beaker
Record the water displacement – the volume of the balloon
Heat the water using the bunsen burner until it reaches the desired temperature.
Add the water to the beehive apperatus.
Pass the gas through the tube into the beehive shelf.
Measure the displacement of the water in the test tube above the beehive shelf.
The volume of the balloon take the volume of the gas in the test tube is the volume of gas dissolved in the water.
 Repeat with the water at 20o, 40o, 60oand 80o C
